Visa Type
Broadly, there are 5 categories of visa applicable to skilled migrants
wishing to migrate to Australia:
Independent skilled migration
you are able to make positive contributions towards the
Australian economy
you meet the basic requirements for skilled migration and
pass the points test in term of skills, qualifications, work experience,
age and employability
you are neither sponsored by an Australian employer nor an
Australian relative
This category will suit:-
(i) applicants with acceptable skills and Australian-equivalent
qualifications, work experience, etc but with limited financial
resources and no Australian ties;
(ii) overseas university graduates recently qualified in Australia,
with/without work experience.
You may wish to check your nominated occupation against the Skills
Occupations List(SOL) here . Always check that you also meet other
basic requirements listed above.
An Australian graduate (trade or higher) may qualify for PR without
needing to meet the work experience requirement if his or her visa
application is made within 6 months of graduation.
Family sponsored skilled migration
In addition to the basic requirements, applicant for this category
Must have a willing Australian sponsoring relative
Are provided an Assurance of Support from an Australian
permanent resident or Australian citizen

Nomination by a State/Territory (S/T) government body or
an Australian employer for permanent residence visa on the basis
of your skills
In addition to the basic requirements, applicant needs to be sponsored
by a State or Territory in Australia .
2 stage process requiring S/T government sponsorship (SIR)
Applicant is required to live and work/study in designated low
population growth metropolitan areas~ for 2 years before eligible
for permanent residence*
Skills matching - applicable if you are unable to pass the
points test
This category is a pooling system and is suitable for Skilled Migrants
who do not pass the points test
If there are not enough skilled applicants meeting the normal requirements
to fill the vacancies, other applicants are selected from this pool.
Applicants from this pool must be under 45 years of age and must
have their skills assessed by the relevant Australian authority. |
